Zuniga Scores Five Goals, Hancock Women's Soccer Routs Cerro Coso 9-0

Bonnie Zuniga scored five goals, three in the first half, to lead an offensive outburst for the Allan Hancock College women's soccer team in its 9-0 victory over Cerro Coso on Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs evened their record at 2-2. After its second loss of the season to the Bulldogs, Cerro Coso fell to 0-7-1.

Zuniga opened the scoring in the third minute of the match. The freshman forward scored on a ball from Arianna Ruiz. Zuniga doubled the lead just one minute later on a goal assisted by Heidi Cortez. Zuniga completed her first hat-trick of the season in the 19th minute on a ball from Celeste Sanchez. The Bulldogs added goals in the 26th minute from Tatiana Silva and Jennifer Velazquez in the 29th minute. Sanchez and Cortez were credited with assists on the last two goals as the Bulldogs carried a 5-0 lead into halftime.

Hancock continued its offensive outburst in the 49th minute when Cortez scored her first goal of the season. Zuniga, a Pioneer Valley High School graduate, was credited with the assist. Zuniga added two more goals in the second half in the 51st and 53rd minutes to give Hancock an 8-0 lead. Silva concluded the scoring with her second of the game in the 63rd minute.

Hancock finished the match with 33 shots overall, including 11 by Zuniga and seven from Silva.

Zuniga leads the team with nine goals in four games. Silva has three.

The Bulldogs open a three-game road trip with their final non-conference match on Friday, October 7, at West Los Angeles. The match will begin at 4 p.m. The Bulldogs open Western State Conference play on Tuesday, October 11 at Santa Barbara City College.
