Zuniga and Velazquez Lead Women's Soccer to 3-2 Win Over Oxnard

Bonnie Zuniga scored twice in the first half, and Jennifer Velasquez added another goal to lead the Allan Hancock College women's soccer team to a 3-2 win over Oxnard College on Friday. The Bulldogs improved to 1-3 in Western State Conference play and 3-6 overall. Hancock earned its first conference win since October 2013, a streak that spanned 22 matches.Oxnard dropped to 0-3-1 in league and 5-9-1 overall.

Zuniga scored the first goal of the game in the seventh minute to give Hancock the early lead. Oxnard tied it three minutes later, but the Bulldogs regained the lead for good when the Pioneer Valley High School graduate buried the ball in the back of the net on a goal assisted by Celeste Sanchez. Hancock carried a 2-1 lead into the second half when Velasquez padded the lead with her third goal of the season in the 75th minute.

The Condors scored in the 80th minute, but the Hancock defense held on to preserve the victory.

The Bulldogs will continue their conference schedule on Tuesday, October 25, at Cuesta College. The first meeting of the season between the Central Coast rivals will begin at 4 p.m. Cuesta is 2-8-4 overall, and 0-3-1 in conference action.
