Six Hancock Soccer Players Earn All-Conference Honors

Six Allan Hancock College women's soccer players, all freshmen, scored All-Conference praise from coaches in the Western State Conference. Forward Bonnie Zuniga and midfielder Celeste Sanchez earned spots on the All-Conference First Team. Heidi Cortez and Lacei Sanders, both Lompoc High School graduates, were Second Team picks. Goalie Karime Morales and midfielder Tatiana Silva earned honorable mention.

The six were key in leading the Bulldogs to a 4-9-2 overall record and fourth place finish in the conference standings under first-year head coach Rob Cantrell.

Zuniga led the team and ranked third in the conference with 13 goals to go with two assists. The Pioneer Valley High School graduate scored five goals in the team's 9-0 win over Cerro Coso, including three within a 16-minute period in the first half. Sanchez, a Righetti High School graduate, was credited with four assists for the Bulldogs this season.

Cortez scored once goal and dished out three assists at midfield for the Bulldogs. Sanders helped to anchor the Hancock defense and assisted on one goal.

Morales, a Santa Maria High School graduate, recorded 60 saves this season for Hancock to receive honorable mention. Silva scored three times and had one assist her freshman season with the Bulldogs. She scored twice in the team's win over Cerro Coso.
