Bulldogs Force Draw with Defending State Champs

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College women's soccer team forced a 1-1 draw against the defending state champions, Hartnell College, at home on Tuesday afternoon. | BOX SCORE

Hartnell (3-3-2) struck first after sending a 25-yard free kick attempt over the head of the keeper in the 39th minute. The Bulldogs (4-0-3) answered in the 42nd minute after Cynthia Ramirez sent a corner kick to the far post where Leslie Ramirez and Becca Souza connected quick passes that led Hayde Gallardo to score.

Offensive production was balanced between the two programs as Hancock registered 12 attempts while the Panthers recorded 10. The Bulldogs also owned the edge of the field with a 7-2 advantage on the corners. C. Ramirez led the home squad with five tries on the day, followed by three from Annette Vargas.

Maya Mendek secured three saves and allowed one goal through the first half of action. Ally Britt closed the game as the keeper but did not record a save as Jessica Gil, Leslie Ramirez, and Hope Smith anchored an aggressive backline that limited scoring opportunities for the visitors.

The Bulldogs are set to return to action on Friday, September 23rd, with a road trip to Foothill College.
