Thrice as Nice: Bramble Sets Conference Record, Earns Co-Swimmer of the Year at WSC Championships

Leanna Bramble completed a triple crown, set a conference record and earned Co-Swimmer of the Year honors during the final day of the Western State Conference Women's Swimming Championships at L.A. Valley College on Saturday.

The freshman broke the conference record in the women's 100-yard breaststroke by nearly three seconds with a time of 1:06.41. It marked the third win of the championships for the Orcutt Academy graduate. She also won the women's 100 and 200-yard individual medley titles, breaking her own school records in the process.

Bramble, Cuesta's Racheal Gruetzmacher and L.A. Valley's Mor Flaisman were the only three women to win three individual titles during the three-day meet. Flaisman won the 1,650-yard freestyle title on Saturday. Hancock's Bailey Nelson, a Righetti High School graduate, finished 12th and Santa Maria High School graduate Caija McNeil placed 14th in the event.

Bramble and Gruetzmacher were named the Western State Conference's Co-Swimmers of the Year. Each athlete won three individual titles and set a conference record.

In their inaugural season as a swim program under head coach Mike Ashmore, the Bulldogs finished eighth in the team standings. The Bakersfield women won the WSC team title with L.A Valley, Santa Barbara and Cuesta rounding out the top four.
