Bramble Finishes Second in 500 Freestyle Final During Opening Day of WSC Championships

(Ventura, CA) Leanna Bramble finished second in the women's 500 yard freestyle final to highlight opening day of the Western State Conference Swimming Championships on Thursday. The Bulldogs earned 59 total points and sit in ninth place out of 10 teams after the first of three days of competition at Ventura College. 

The Santa Barbara City College women sit atop the standings with 183 points, followed by Cuesta with 148 and Ventura with 100.  Bramble finished in 5:21.45, less than one second behind the conference champion Katherine Warren of Santa Barbara, who touched the wall at 5:20.51. The Orcutt Academy graduate earned 17 points for the Bulldogs. The sophomore won three individual conference titles last season.

Natalie Bondy, a freshman, swam a personal-best time in the 200 yard individual medley at 2:29.85. She finished third in the evening's B-Final for an 11th place overall finish in the event. Bondy scored six points for the team. 

During the evening team relay events, Hancock finished eighth in the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 4:51.71 to earn 22 points, and tenth in the 200 yard freestyle relay at 2:09.29 for 14 points. Bramble, Sara Zuckerbraun, Bondy and Marisa Zubiate swam in the 200 yard freestyle, while Zuckerbraun, Kaitlin McNeil,  Esme Garcia and Estephanie Cortes comprised Hancock's medley team.

The three-day event continues on Friday with qualifying heats in the morning and finals scheduled for the evening.
