Bramble Defends Title in 200 Yard Breaststroke During Final Day of WSC Championships

(Ventura, CA) Sophomore Leanna Bramble defended her individual title in the women's 200 yard breaststroke to close out the third and final day of the Western State Conference Championships on Saturday in Ventura. The Orcutt Academy graduate was clocked in 2:26.19 to edge Bakersfield's Alexis Zimmerman by .20 of a second. Zimmerman was the top seed headed into the final. Bramble broke her school record in the event, as well as a set a new conference record.

Bramble, who won three individual conference titles in 2014, finished the championships with two titles (100 and 200 breaststroke) and a runner-up finish in the 500 yard freestyle.

Also on Saturday, freshman Natalie Bondy won the consolation final in the 200 yard backstroke with a personal-best and school record time of 2:27.37. She finished ninth overall in the event. Sara Zuckerbraun came in 16th in the event.

Overall, the Bulldogs finished 10th in the team standings with 186 points. Santa Barbara City College won the conference title with 522 points, followed by Cuesta with 412, and Ventura with 376 points.

Ventura College won the men's WSC title with 664 points. Cuesta finished runner-up with 520 points and Bakersfield came in third with 451 points.
