Bramble Finishes in Fourth in 100 Yard Breaststroke at CCCAA State Championships

(Monterey Park, CA) Allan Hancock College swimmer Leanna Bramble turned in a season-best time for a fourth place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke championship final during the second day of the CCCAA Women's Swimming State Championships in Monterey Park on Friday. Bramble finished in 1:07.18, about two seconds behind the winner, Christine Lewis of Santa Rosa College. The fourth place finish was Bramble's best finish in the State Championships.

Bramble earned 15 points more points for Hancock in the team standings. The Bulldogs have 22 points, all earned by Bramble, and climbed three spots to 22nd out of nearly 40 teams in the overall standings.

The Orcutt Academy graduate entered the meet with the seventh fastest time in the field of 21. She turned in the fifth fastest time of 1:07.75 during the morning's preliminary heat to qualify for the eight-person championship final.

During day one of the State Championships on Thursday, Bramble broke her own school record and finished tenth in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:20.37.

A five-time Western State Conference champion, Bramble will compete in her third and final event of this year's meet, the 200 yard breaststroke event, on Saturday. She has the third fastest qualifying time of 2:26.19 among the 21 swimmers headed into the morning's preliminary heat.

Last year, Bramble competed in three events at the state meet. She finished seventh in the 100 breaststroke final, tenth in the 100 yard individual medley and 13th in the 200 I.M. As Hancock's only competitor last season, she led the Bulldogs to a 24th place finish out of 48 teams at state.
