Bramble Finishes Fifth in 200 Yard Breaststroke Final at CCCAA State Championships

(Monterey Park, CA) Allan Hancock College's Leanna Bramble ended her historic Bulldog swimming career with a fifth place finish in the women's 200 yard breaststroke championship final on Saturday at the CCCAA Women's Swimming State Championships in Monterey Park. The sophomore finished in 2:27.46. Layna Auchard of Foothill won the title with a State Meet record time of 2:24.24.

Bramble earned 14 more points for Hancock to give the Bulldogs a total of 36 points, all secured by the sophomore. Hancock finished in 23rd place out of nearly 40 teams.

Bramble qualified for the championship final by swimming the third fastest time in the morning's preliminary heats. The Orcutt Academy graduate was clocked in 2:27.44, which set a State Meet record. Two heats later, two swimmers swam faster times to surpass Bramble's time.

Bramble earned a fourth place finish on Friday in the women's 100 yard breaststroke championship final with a time of 1:07.18s. She also finished tenth and broke her own school record in the women's 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:20/37.

The five-time Western State Conference champion was Hancock's only state qualifier the last two years. She owns nearly half a dozen school records.

Bramble will sign scholarship papers to Division III-level Whitworth University next week during a special ceremony on campus.
