Kwong, Gonzalez and Diaz Lead Bulldogs to Strong Showing at Cuesta Invitational

Alexandria Kwong won the 100-yard individual medley and placed in the top six in three other events, Madalena Diaz and Rebecca Gonzalez combined for six top-nine finishes to pace the Allan Hancock College women's swim team during the two-day 38th annual Cuesta College Swim Invitational. Hancock finished with 209 total points for a seventh place finish out of 33 teams from across the state.

Kwong won the 100 I.M. with a time of 1:03.34 to earn 20 points in the field of 26 swimmers.  The freshman also finished fifth out of 41 in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:18.08; sixth out of 19 in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:25.05; and fifth out of 48 in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.78.  The Orcutt Academy graduate accounted for 61 points.

Diaz finished third out of 31 in the women's 400-yard individual medley with a time of 5:00.85. She was clocked in 18:59.66 in the women's 1,650-yard freestyle to place fourth out of 22 to earn 15 points.  The Pioneer Valley High School graduate also came in fifth in the 200 I.M. with a time of 2:23.5, and ninth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:34.74. Diaz earned 54 points for the Bulldogs.

Gonzalez finished fourth out of 44 swimmers in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 34.33 seconds to earn 15 points. The Nipomo High School graduate placed eighth out of 40 women in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.38 to earn another 11 points for the Bulldogs. She later finished 11th in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:44.97 to account for six more points. Gonzalez racked up 32 points for Hancock.

The Bulldogs also earned 54 points in relay events.

Orange Coast finished first with 869 points. Sierra College finished second with 672 and Santa Rosa came in third with 549 points.
