Diaz and Kwong Earn All-American Honors in Six Events

Allan Hancock College swimmers Madalena Diaz and Alexandria Kwong each earned All-American status in three events to cap off their historic freshmen seasons with the Bulldogs. Swimmers behind the top 16 times in each event receive All-American status from the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA).

Diaz posted top 16 times in the 500-yard freestyle (5:25.41), 1,650-yard freestyle (18:34.83), and 400-yard individual medley (4:56.08). She ranked No. 15, No. 7 and No. 16 in the state in the respective events. Diaz broke school records in all three events during the 2016 CCCAA State Championships. She finished seventh in the 1,650 free, 13th in the 500 free, and 15th in the 400 I.M.

Kwong posted All-American times in the 100-yard butterfly (59.98),200-yard butterfly (2:14.07), and 200-yard backstroke (2:12.34). The Orcutt Academy graduate ranked fifth, eighth and tenth in the state in her respective events. Kwong broke school records in all three events during the state meet. She finished fourth in the 100 fly, ninth in the 200 back and 11th in the 200 fly while competing against the state's best. She won Western State Conference titles in all three events this season.

Kwong and Diaz helped the Bulldogs finish fourth in the Western State Conference finals and 18th at the state meet.
