Gurgiolo Finishes Third in 3-Meter at WSC Diving Championships, Qualifies for State Meet

Allan Hancock College sophomore Nikki Gurgiolo finished third in the 3-meter springboard at the Western State Conference Diving Championships hosted by El Camino College on Saturday.The meet also served as the Southern California Regional Championships.

Gurgiolo finished third among conference divers and sixth in the region to qualify for the 2017 State Meet.The third-place finish earned 16 points for Hancock in the team standings. The diving scores will be added to the swimming portion of next week's Western State Conference Championships that will be hosted by Hancock.

The sophomore competed in the 1-meter springboard on Friday. She finished fourth in the conference and 13th in the region Fellow Bulldog Rebecca Gonzalez placed fifth in conference and 18th in the region in the 1-meter. Gonzalez and Gurgiolo combined to earn 29 more points for the Bulldogs toward the overall team standings.

The 2017 Western State Conference Championships will take place at the Paul Nelson Aquatic Center in Santa Maria next Thursday through Saturday, April 20-22. The competition will begin at 9:30 a.m. each day. The Bulldogs finished fourth at least year's WSC Championships.

Hancock will enter the WSC Championships in second place behind defending conference champion Santa Barbara City College.
