Roux Wins WSC Diving Title to Make Program History, Qualifies for State Championships

Allan Hancock College freshman Kailey Roux won the Western State Conference's 3-meter diving title and finished second in the 1-meter event over the weekend at El Camino College in Torrance. The Orcutt Academy graduate became the first diver to win a conference title in the history of Hancock's swimming and diving program. The meet served as both the Southern California Regional Championship and Western State Conference Diving Championship.

Roux started the two-day meet with a second-place finish in conference in the 1-meter final with a total score of 136.00. She finished 3.75 points behind Santa Barbara City College's Erika Muerhring. Roux finished tenth overall in the Southern California Regional to qualify as an alternate in the event for next month's CCCAA Swimming and Diving State Championships.

Roux finished the meet by winning the 3-meter final with a total score of 181.65 points. She bested runner-up Anna Watkins of SBCC, who tallied 115.20 points. Roux came in seventh overall in the SoCal Region to automatically qualify for the state meet in the event.

Roux is the second Hancock diver to qualify for the state meet. Last year, Nikki Gurgiolo finished third at conference and sixth in the region in the 3-meter final. The Righetti High School graduate went on to finish 15th at the state meet.

Hancock swimmers will compete at the Western State Conference Championships Thursday through Saturday at Bakersfield College. Last year, the Bulldogs finished a program-best third overall at the conference finals.
