Hancock's Kailey Roux Finishes Ninth in 1-Meter Diving Final at CCCAA State Championships

Allan Hancock College freshman Kailey Roux finished ninth overall in the 1-meter diving event during opening day of the 2018 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday. De Anza College in Cupertino is hosting the three-day meet.

Roux compiled a total score of 156.70 points to finish ninth out of 19 divers and earn nine points for Hancock in the team standings. She missed a spot on the medal podium and All-American status by 4.45 points. The Orcutt Academy graduate finished runner-up in the 1-meter final at the Western State Conference Finals and came in tenth at the Southern California Regional last month.

Sophomore Alejandra Gomez of Cypress College won the 1-meter state championship with a total score of 254.10. Gomez finished runner-up in the event last year.

Roux, the only Hancock representative at this year's state meet and second diver in program history to qualify for state, will compete in the 3-meter diving event on Friday. She captured a conference title in the event last month, the first championship won by a Hancock diver in program history.

Last year at state, Nikki Gurgiolo, the first Hancock diver to qualify for state, finished 15th in the 3-meter final.
