Roux Finishes 10th in 3-Meter Final at CCCAA State Championships

Allan Hancock College freshman Kailey Roux finished tenth in the 3-meter diving final on Friday at the 2018 California Community College Athletic Association's (CCCAA) Swimming and Diving Championships at De Anza College in Cupertino. The Orcutt Academy graduate earned a score of 149.35 to rank tenth out of 17 divers and earn seven points for Hancock in the team standings.

Alejandra Gomez of Cypress College won the 3-meter state title for the second straight year. Gomez with a score of 246.90, edging the runner-up from San Diego Mesa by 0.35. The sophomore captured the 1-meter state crown and broke a state record in the event on Thursday.

Roux, the only Hancock representative at this year's state meet and second diver in program history to qualify for state, finished ninth out of 19 divers on Thursday in the 1-meter final with 156.70 points. Between her two events, the freshman earned 16 points for the Bulldogs. On her own, Roux helped Hancock finish 27th out of 35 teams in the overall team standings. Orange Coast College won both the women's and men's team state championships.

The two top-10 finishes mark the end of a historic freshman season for Roux. She became the first Hancock diver to win an individual Western State Conference title (3-meter) and the first to qualify for state in both the 1- and 3-meter events. Roux also set two college records: 183.65 points in the 1-meter and -181.65 in the 3-meter.
