Fraire Breaks Records in First-Place Finish, Roux Wins Twice at Pasadena Invitational

Allan Hancock College sophomore Kailey Roux won two diving events, and freshman Izzie Fraire won the 200-yard breaststroke in record-breaking time to highlight three days of competition at the 19th annual Pasadena Invitational. The Hancock women's swimming and diving team finished fifth in the team standings out of 16 women's programs.

Fraire (pictured below) won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:23.65 on Saturday. The performance broke Hancock, meet, and pool records. The Righetti High School graduate's time broke the previous Hancock record of 2:26.19 set by Leanna Bramble in 2015. On Friday, Fraire placed third in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard breaststroke. In the 200-IM, she finished with a time of 2:15.68, about two seconds behind the winner from Diablo Valley. Fraire was clocked in 1:08.01 in the 100-yard breaststroke, about 2.43 seconds behind the winners, who tied for first with a time of 1:05.85. On Saturday, she placed third in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:50.93.

Roux (pictured below) won both diving competitions on Friday. She won the 1-meter event with a score of 200.65 points, 58 points better than the runner-up. Roux also took the 3-meter event with 200.65, winning by a 55-point margin. Roux has swept the 1- and 3-meter events in every meet she has competed at this season.

Kaila Guillemin finished 12th in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:04.30, while Helen Frazer placed 15th in 6:05.90, and Anika Smith came in 22nd at 6:14.92. Guillemin placed 13th in the 1,650 freestyle, finishing in 21:39.11.

Frazer also placed 17th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:06.21, and eighth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:34.89.

In the 800-freestyle relay, the team of Fraire, Frazer, Smith and Angel Landis came in fifth with a time of 8:56.66. Landis, Fraire, Frazer, and Smith also finished seventh in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:01.80.


Orange Coast won with 854.5 points. Diablo Valley came in second with 521.5 points, eight more than Santa Barbara City. Sierra College placed fourth with 462 points, while Santa Monica and Hancock tied for fifth with 229 points.

Next weekend, Roux will compete at the Western State Conference Diving Championships, which also serve as the Southern California Regionals, at El Camino College. The Western State Conference Championships are set for April 19-20 at College of the Canyons.
