Roux Finishes Second in Conference and Fifth in Region, Qualifies for State Championships in 1-Meter Diving

For the second straight year, Allan Hancock College diver Kailey Roux finished second in the 1-meter event at the Western State Conference Finals on Friday. The two-day event, hosted by El Camino College, also served as the Southern California Regional Diving Championships.

With a score of 141.65, Roux finished fifth in the region, automatically qualifying for next month's CCCAA State Championships by finishing in the top-eight in the region. L.A. Valley's Nicole Hall won the WSC title and the SoCal Regional in the 1-meter with a score of 196.00. Eighteen women from four conferences competed in the regional.

Roux will look to defend her conference title in the 3-meter final on Saturday, as well as look to earn a spot at the state meet in the event.

Last season, Roux finished second in conference and tenth in the Southern California Regional in the 1-meter event with a score of 130.00. She won the conference title and finished seventh in the SoCal Region in the 3-meter event with a score of 181.65.

Roux went on to compete in both events at the 2018 CCCAA State Championships. She finished ninth out of 19 divers in the 1-meter final with 156.70 points. Roux finished tenth out of 17 in the 3-meter final with a score of 149.35 points. The only Bulldog to compete at the state meet, Roux helped Hancock finish 25th out of 41 teams.

Hancock swimmers will compete at the Western State Conference Championships next Thursday through Saturday, April 18-20 at College of the Canyons. Last year, Hancock finished fifth at the conference championships. In 2017, the Bulldogs placed third at the WSC Championships.

The 2019 CCCAA Swimming and Diving State Championships will be May 2-4 at De Anza College.
