Making Waves: Fraire Wins Second Title in Record Time, Frazer Places Fourth During Day Two of WSC Championships

Allan Hancock College swimmer Izzie Fraire broke a school record and captured an individual conference title for the second straight day during day two of the 2019 Western State Conference Championships on Friday at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center.

Fraire won the women's 100-yard breaststroke final with a time of 1:06.11, breaking the meet and the school record of 1:06.41 set by Leanna Bramble in 2014. In the final, the freshman edged Cuesta's Tristian Bennett by 1.83 seconds. The Righetti High School graduate became the fourth Bulldog swimmer in program history to win multiple conference crowns, joining Alexandria Kwong (six titles), Bramble (five), and Maddie Diaz (two).

Fraire won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:10.99 on Thursday, breaking Brambles record of 2:13.4 set by Bramble back in 2014. Fraire has a third individual event on Saturday.

Also on Friday, freshman Helen Frazer came in fourth in the 100-yard butterfly final with a time of 1:02.52 to earn 15 points for the Bulldogs.

Sophomore Oceana Heath finished seventh in the 400-yard individual medley final with a time of 5:30.24. She placed eighth in the 500-yard freestyle final on Thursday.

In the 200-yard freestyle event, Angel Landis finished 13th with a time of 2:16.06, Anika Smith came in 14th in 2:18.17, and sophomore Kaila Guillemin finished 16th in 2:18.89. The Hancock trio earned eight total points for the team.

Landis placed seventh in Thursday's 50-yard free final and Guillemin came in 14th in the 500-free.

In Friday's relay events, Hancock finished third in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 8:42.82 for another 32 points, behind Frazer, Fraire, Guillemin, and Landis. The Bulldogs also placed sixth in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:58.55 for another 26 points.

After two days, the Bulldogs sit in five place out of 10 teams with 248 points. Santa Barbara City College remains in first with 431 points, followed by Cuesta with 308, Bakersfield with 278, and Santa Monica in fourth with 273. L.A. Valley trails Hancock by two points, while Ventura sits seventh with 219, Citrus in eight with 184 points, with Canyons and L.A. Pierce sitting in ninth and tenth place.

The three-day meet ends on Saturday with preliminary heats at 9:30 AM and the finals at 4 PM.
