Fraire Completes Conference Triple Crown to Earn Western State Conference's Co-Swimmer of the Year, Bulldogs Finish Fifth at WSC Championships

Allan Hancock College swimmer Izzie Fraire captured her third individual conference title in as many days on Saturday to cap a historic 2019 Western State Conference Swimming Championships at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center.

Fraire completed her title trifecta by winning the 200-yard breaststroke final with a personal-best time of 2:23.55 on Saturday. Fraire was named the Western State Conference's Co-Swimmer of the Year. She joined Alexandria Kwong (2016 and 2017) and Bramble (2014) as the only Hancock swimmers to capture three conference titles in one year.

The Righetti High School graduate won the women's 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.11, breaking the meet and the school on Friday. She started the meet Thursday by breaking the school record and taking the title in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:10.99.

Two other Bulldogs earned top-three finishes in Saturday's 200-yard butterfly final. Helen Frazer finished second with a time of 2:29.29 and Oceana Heath placed third at 2:38.05.

Earlier in the weekend, Frazer finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly, while Heath, a Righetti High School product, added to her seventh-place finish in the 400-individual medley and eight-place effort in the 500-freestyle.

After coming in seventh in the 50-yard freestyle final and 13th in the 200-free, sophomore Angel Landis claimed 16th place on Saturday in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:00.71.

Earlier in the day, Anika Smith finished seventh in the 1,650-freestyle by shaving 1:41 off her previous-best time and posting a time of 21:14.65. Sophomore Kaila Guillemin finished 10th with a time of 21:32.86. The Santa Ynez High School graduate also turned in a 16th-place finish in the 200-free and 14th-place effort in the 500-freestyle during the weekend. Santa Maria High product Vanessa Garcia finished 19th in the 1,650-free with a time of 25:19.88.

Smith came in 14th in the 200-freestyle on Friday with a time of 2:18.17.

In Saturday's relay events, Hancock placed sixth in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:57.07, a four-second improvement in its qualifying time.

The Bulldogs finished in fifth place out of 10 teams with 347 points. Santa Barbara City College captured the women's team title for the fifth year in a row. The Vaqueros racked up 647 points. Cuesta finished second with 437.5 points, followed by Bakersfield at 419, and Santa Monica with 361. The Bulldogs were followed by Ventura (339), L.A. Valley (316.5), Citrus (256), College of the Canyons (151) in ninth place, and L.A. Pierce in tenth with 139 points.

The 2019 CCCAA Swimming and Diving State Championships will be May 2-4 at De Anza College. Swimmers with the 16-fastest entry times will qualify for state in each individual event. The established 'A' standard will be the 16th-fastest entry time. The established 'B' standard will be 102.9% of the 'A' standard. If swimmers qualify for the state meet with an 'A' standard, they can swim in additional events as long as their entry times meet the 'B' standard in those events.

Sophomore diver Kailey Roux has already qualified for state in the 1- and 3-meter diving events. She finished in the top-five in both events during the Southern California Regional Championships last week to automatically qualify. She finished ninth in the 1-meter and tenth in the 3-meter during the state meet last year.
