Roux and Fraire to Represent Hancock at CCCAA Swim and Dive State Championships

Freshman swimmer Izzie Fraire and sophomore diver Kailey Roux will represent Allan Hancock College at the 2019 CCCAA Swim and Dive State Championships this week. The three-day meet takes place at De Anza College, starting Thursday, May 2, through Saturday, May 4.

Fraire will compete in the 200-yard individual medley, 100-yard breaststroke, and 200-yard breaststroke events. She set two school records and won individual conference titles in all three of those events two weeks ago during the 2019 Western State Conference Championships. The Righetti High School graduate became the third swimmer in program history to win three individual conference crowns in the same year and receive the conference's Co-Swimmer of the Year Award. Fraire will swim the 200 IM event on Thursday, the 100 breaststroke on Friday, and the 200 breaststroke on Saturday.

Her qualifying times make her a contender in each event. In the 200 IM, her time of 2:10.99 is close to the state-leading time of Mia Ruggin from Diablo Valley at 2:09.59. Her time of 2:23.55 in the 200 breaststroke is close to Orange Coast's Meghan Kluck's 2:23.18.  Kluck and Pasadena's Carmen Ung have the two fastest times in the 100 breastroke of 1:04 and 1:04.33. Fraire's top time is 1:06.11.

Roux will compete in the 1- and 3-meter diving finals for the second year in a row. Earlier this month in the 1-meter, Roux finished runner-up in conference and seventh in the Southern California Regional. She placed second in the WSC and fourth in the region in the 3-meter event. Last year at state, Roux finished ninth in the 1-meter and tenth in the 3-meter final. The only Hancock representative at the meet, Roux helped Hancock finish helping the Bulldogs finish 27th out of nearly 40 teams. The women's 1-meter diving final will be at 12 PM on Thursday, while the 3-meter final will be at the same time on Friday.

Each day during the 72nd annual CCCAA State Championships, the preliminary swim heats will begin at 9 AM and the finals at 4 PM.
