Fraire Wins State Title in 200 Breaststroke to Cap Historic Showing at CCCAA State Championships

Allan Hancock College freshman Izzie Fraire concluded her historic run at the 2019 CCCAA Swim and Dive State Championships by securing the first state swimming championship in college history. She won the 200-yard breaststroke state title on Saturday at De Anza College. Fraire finished in a school record time of 2:19.62, shaving 6.82 seconds off her previous best time.

The final was a four-way race until Fraire pulled away in the final lap. Sierra's Danielle Brown finished second in 2:20.49. Orange Coast's Meghan Kluck, who won the state title in the 100 breaststroke, placed third in 2:20.65, while Carmen Ung finished fourth in 2:20.72.

Fraire added the state title to the two medals and school records she already secured at the meet. Fraire finished second in state in Thursday's 200-yard individual medley and set a school record with a time of 2:09.79.The Righetti High product came in fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke final with a record time of 1:04.89, a 1.22 second improvement over her previous best time.

Fraire accounted for a combined 53 points for Hancock in the team standings. Sophomore diver Kailey Roux racked up 23 points with a sixth-place finish in the 3-meter final and eighth-place effort in the 1-meter event. She earned All-American status in each event, the first diver in Hancock history to finish in the top-eight at state.

The Bulldogs finished in 18th place out of 40 teams overall with 76 total points. Orange Coast won its second straight state championship and third in the last four years with 553 points. San Diego Mesa finished second with 332 points, followed by Sierra with 318 and Diablo Valley with 313.  

The state title ends a historic freshman season for Fraire. She was named the Western State Conference's Co-Swimmer of the Year after winning the 200-breaststroke, 100-breaststroke, and 200-individual medley events. She joined Alexandria Kwong and Bramble as the only Hancock swimmers in program history to win three conference titles in one year.
