Batty Wins Long Jump to Lead Hancock Track's Strong Showing at Season-Opening Battle of Regions

Freshman Haleigh Batty enjoyed an impressive debut for the Allan Hancock College track and field team Friday as the Bulldogs opened the 2018 season at the Battle of Regions Meet hosted by Bakersfield College. She earned three of the Bulldogs' eight top-five finishes on the day.

Batty won the women's long jump with a top mark of 18 feet, four inches. The Cabrillo High School graduate finished second in the high jump by clearing 5-2. She also came in fifth in the javelin throw with a top mark of 69-4.

Sophomore Ben Wulfestieg earned three top-six finishes in throwing events. The Cabrillo High School graduate finished fifth in the shot put with a toss of 40 feet, 3.5 inches. He placed fifth in the hammer with a mark of 70-8, and earned sixth place in the javelin at 135 feet. 

Freshman David Tyler, Jr., a Santa Maria High School graduate, finished third in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:52. Yovany Pineda placed seventh in the men's 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:07. 

Hancock freshman Destiny Goggins, a Lompoc High School graduate, finished fifth in the women's shot put. 

The Bulldogs will return to Bakersfield next Friday for the Western State Conference Relays.
