Batty Breaks School Long Jump Record at Cal Poly Invitational

Freshman Haleigh Batty broke a school record for the second straight week to lead a contingent of Allan Hancock College track and field athletes Saturday at the Cal Poly Invitational.

Batty, who broke a 24-year-old record in the women's high jump last week, entered the record books in the long jump. The Cabrillo High School graduate cleared 18 feet, 9.75 inches in the long jump to finish second in a field of 25 athletes from two- and four- year colleges and the professional ranks. She topped 19 athletes from four-year programs. Batty broke the previous record set in 2009 by Kenna Wolter of 18-7.5

Freshman Cherry Inay places 23rd in he women's 100 hurdles with a time of 17.22 seconds.

On the men's side, Ben Wulfestieg came in 13th in the shot put with a mark of 39-7. The Cabrillo High School graduate bested four athletes from four-year institutions.

Yovany Pineda crossed the finish line in the men's 1500 run in 4:28. Eduardo Perez came in at 4:30. Rogelio Felix-Ayon was clocked at 2:07.82 in the 800.

Sophomore Nate Tulloch ran the 100 meter dash in 11.71 seconds to finish 22nd overall.

Hancock returns to action next Friday, March 30 at the Western State Conference Coastal Meet at Cuesta.
