Batty Finishes Second at SoCal Regional Finals, Advances to State Championships

Allan Hancock College freshman Haleigh Batty finished second at the Southern California Regional Championships to qualify for the 2018 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Track and Field State Championships.

Batty finished second in the women's long jump with a top mark of 18 feet, 2.25 inches, about 20 inches shy of her season-best and college record-mark of 19-10.25.

Moorpark's Paige Johnson won the SoCal Regional title with a personal-best jump of 18-7.25. Lachelle Autry of Southwestern finished third with a jump of 18-1.75.

The 2018 CCCAA State Championships take place next Friday and Saturday, May 18-19, at Bakersfield City College.

Batty, the 2018 Western State Conference champion in the long jump, will try to become the first Bulldog to win a state championship since Kelly Jarrett won the women's shot put title in 2012. Headed into the state meet, the freshman ranks second in the state with a top mark of 19-10.25. Cerritos' Kierra King ranks first in the state with a top mark of 19-10.75.
