Haleigh Batty Finishes Third at 2018 CCCAA State Championships, Earns All-American Status

Allan Hancock College freshman Haleigh Batty finished third in the women's high jump final during the 2018 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Track and Field State Championships on Saturday at Bakersfield College. It marked the best finish at the state meet by a Hancock female athlete since Bobbie Patton won the women's shot put title in 2005. The third-place effort also earned Batty All-American status.

The Cabrillo High School graduate jumped 18-4.5 on her second attempt of the day to enter a tie for first with Hartnell College's Haley Romero. After the 12 participants completed three jumps, Batty and seven other finalists advanced to the final where she received three more jumps.

Batty and Romero remained tied for first at the top of the leaderboard through five jumps. However, they were passed on the sixth and final jumps by Cerritos' Kierra King and Kymberlynn Jackson.

King won the state title with a top mark of 19-5.5. Jackson finished second at 18-9.75.

Batty's final attempt was 18-5.75 for a third-place finish. Moorpark's Paige Johnson came in fourth.

The state meet ended Batty's historic freshman season that included a Western State Conference long jump title and two college records. Batty holds the college's long jump record with a jump of 19-10.25 and broke a 24-year-old record in the high jump by clearing 5-1.75.
