Julio Molina is Coach of the Year, Five Volleyball Players Named All-Conference
The Allan Hancock College volleyball team worked hard this past season and they were rewarded for their efforts. Five players have been named to the All-Conference team and head coach Julio Molina has been chosen as the Western State Conference volleyball coach of the year.
“The Coach of the Year is chosen by a vote of the coaches of the Western State Conference and typically goes to the coach with the most wins that season,” said Kim Ensing, associate dean/athletic director. “It says a great deal about Julio, that he was voted Coach of the Year, after a season in which his team didn’t have the most wins, but they made the most progress.”
The Bulldogs ended the season 9-14 overall and 4-9 in conference, the best record for the volleyball program since 2005. Five players earned All-Conference honors, including first team All-Conference setter Sadie DeQuattro (Paso Robles)  who ended the season ranked third in the conference in assists with 528 and ranked eighth in digs. DeQuattro played in every set for the Bulldogs this season.
Second team All-Conference player Kendall Stahl (Nipomo) finished first in the conference in digs. Mallory Pina (Righetti) was also named to the second team and finished the season ranked third in the conference in digs and 16th in total kills with 155. Erin Smith (Nipomo ) and Tiffany Isel (Pioneer Valley ) were both named honorable mention All-Conference. Smith was ranked 24th in kill percentage and Isel was fifth in the conference in digs.
Though she wasn’t mentioned by the conference this season, Molina also wanted to recognize Danielle Rydberg (Nipomo ). She played in every single game for the 2009 and 2010 seasons and has 97 career blocks.
“The team's performance this season is a direct result of the hard work put in by the players, coach K.C. Carnine and coach Sandy Daraway and the support staff at Allan Hancock College,” said coach Julio Molina. “With everyone’s help, Hancock volleyball will be a strong contender for years to come.”
