Hancock Volleyball Goes For Second Straight Home Victory on Wednesday

In search of its second straight home victory, the women's volleyball hosts West Los Angeles at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30. The Bulldogs enter their final week of non-conference matches 2-7 overall.

Hancock started last week with a thrilling five-set win in its home opener over San Bernardino. Middle blocker Taylor Nevitt (Nipomo HS) and freshman Alyse Carson (Orcutt Academy) led the Bulldogs with 10 kills apiece. Chyanne Thomas (Lompoc HS) had nine kills and 11 digs. Sophomore setter Rebecca Davis (Lompoc HS) had 34 assists and 16 digs for the Bulldogs. Cristine Flores (Pioneer Valley HS) had a career-high 31 digs, while Jourdan Reynolds (Nipomo HS) had a career-high eight aces.

The Bulldogs hit the road but dropped a five-set match at Santa Monica last Friday. Hancock won the first and fourth sets, but fell 15-11 in the decisive fifth set. Bolusan led the Bulldogs with 10 kills. Thomas added nine to go with 15 digs. Nevitt recorded 10 kills, 10 digs and three aces. Davis had 30 assists, while Flores had 22 digs to lead the Bulldogs.  

West LA is off to a 4-4 start. The teams have one common opponent so far this season. The Wildcats lost in four sets to San Bernardino, while Hancock edged SBVC in five sets. Middle blockers Carissa Baker and Mari Dear are tied for the team lead with 35 kills each. Baker has 20 blocks.

The Bulldogs will play California Lutheran's junior varsity team at noon on Saturday, Oct. 3. Cal Lutheran beat West LA 3-0 earlier this season.
