BULLDOGS CELEBRATE HOME OPENER WITH A SHUTOUT

The Hancock College Volleyball team scored its first win of the season with a 3-0 victory over Contra Costa College Thursday night.

This is significant because it is not only the Bulldogs' first win of the 2018 season, but the first win for the program since 10/21/15 and first home win since 9/30/15.

During the match, freshman outside hitter Gwen Manene from Nipomo High School, led the Bulldogs with a career-best record with 11 kills and 5 aces. Freshman setter Crystal Cabanas, from Pioneer Valley High School, also led the team with 13 assists.

The defensive charge was led by sophomore libero Bella Albano, from Nipomo High School, who led the Bulldogs with 24 digs and sophomore middle blocker Kaelyn Mossholder who had 6 big blocks.

Head Coach Julio Molina feels like this could be the boost the team needed moving forward.  "This was a great experience for our team. They pulled out two close matches," Molina said. "We have a lot of potential but we need to keep working hard. We still have a lot to improve on."

The Bulldogs are now overall 1-3 for the season and will travel to Ridgecrest, CA for a match against Cerro Coso College this Saturday.
