Water Polo Heads to Conference Tournament Riding Two-Game Winning Streak

The women's water polo team wraps up the season this week at the Western State Conference Tournament hosted by Cuesta College. The Bulldogs enter the tournament 2-5 in conference and 13-14 overall. Hancock finished the regular season sixth in the conference standings.

Last week during a Halloween Tournament in Santa Barbara, the Bulldogs fell 12-7 to Santa Barbara City College. Meagan Coyne (Righetti HS) led the team with two goals. The following day, Hancock routed L.A. Pierce 18-6 in a conference game. Shannon Copeland (Clerendon Girls School) led the team with four goals. Ellyn Clardy (Righetti HS) and Makena Blanco (Lompoc HS) had three goals apiece. Allie Shea (Nipomo HS), Coyne and Lizbeth Hernandez Perez (Santa Maria HS) each had two goals. The Bulldogs finished the weekend with a 13-3 win over Southwestern. Coyne once again led the team with five goals. Copeland, Nikki Gurgiolo (Righetti HS) and Blanco each scored twice in the victory.

Copeland is the team's leading scorer with 61 goals. Rebecca Gonzalez (Nipomo HS) ranks second with 54 goals. Coyne ranks third with 46 goals and a team-high 57 steals.
