Hancock Women’s Water Polo Prepared for Their Third Season

Allan Hancock College Women's Water Polo Team

Hancock Women's Water Polo is looking to improve under Dominique Miller in her second year as the Head Coach. "We are more improved where we were this time last year and still making gains every day." The Bulldogs finished 14-16 overall last year and 3-7 in Western State Conference play.

This year's team will feature three of the top four leading scorers from last year. Sophomore Shannon Copeland, who scored 65 goals, Meagan Coyne with 53 goals, and Ellyn Clardy who put in 41 goals. Copeland, graduate from Claredon Girl's School in South Africa, added 34 steals and 20 assists in her freshman season. Coyne, graduate of Righetti High School, led the team with 62 steals and received honorable mention honors. Clardy, another graduate of Righetti High School, led the team in assists with 31.

Recruiting has been good this last year. "We are getting really good key position players," said Miller." Additions to this year's team include two more Righetti graduates in Shay McMann and Dominique Rivera. McMann earned all-league goalie honors her senior year. Another key position added to the team was field player Alicia Reyes, graduate from Santa Ynez. Reyes was a member of the CIF-SS Division 7 championship water polo team.

They will be opening up the season at the Cuesta Tournament against Fresno on Friday, September 8 at 8:30am. "We are in a position to win every game we're in [at the tournament]," said Miller. "Our matchups look good. If we go out and play our game… we should come out of this year's tournament in a much better position."
