Avila Finishes in Top 50, Hancock Cross Country Finishes 12th at WSC Championships

Freshman Vanessa Avila paced the Allan Hancock College women's cross country team during the Western State Conference Championships on Friday. The Bulldogs finished 12th out of 13 teams at the finals hosted by Oxnard College.

Avila finished the 5K-course in 50th place out of 89 runners with a time of 22:00.99.

Freshman Carmen Uvalle, a Pioneer Valley High School graduate, was the second-fastest Bulldog with a time of 23:47.19 to finish in 65th place. Hancock freshman Jasmin Lua was clocked at 25:12.53. Sophomore Alexis Kazianka came in fourth among the Bulldogs with a time of 25:34.92, and Brianna Magana, a Righetti High School graduate, finished next for Hancock in 25:44.37.

Glendale won the conference title with a total of 30 points, followed by College of the Canyons with 87 points and Cuesta with 89 points. Hancock tallied 319 points.

Cuesta's Miranda Daschian, a sophomore, won the individual title by crossing the finish line in 18:35.50. She edged Glendale's Giselle Masedo by 1.44 seconds.

The Southern California Regional Championships are Friday, November 4, at Irvine Regional Park. Avila will wait to find out if she qualified for the SoCal Regionals.
