Hancock Men's Basketball Earns CCCAA Scholar Team Award

The 2018-19 Hancock College men's basketball team has been honored with the California Community College Athletic Association Scholar Team Award.

The award was presented Friday evening before the team's match-up against Cuesta College. The evening was already filled with high emotion, as it was the sophomore night, the Annual Carney's Coaches vs. Cancer event, and a chance for the team to clinch a conference championship. Athletic Director Kim Ensing surprised the team with the honor just before tip-off.

"Athletic and academic hard work and dedication reigns supreme with Allan Hancock athletics," said Ensing. "Our athletes continue to strive for excellence both on and off the field, the court or the diamond."

The California Community College Athletic Association recognizes the hard work of the collegiate athlete and have annually presented an award for excellence.

Teams are nominated throughout the State by their institutions.  Teams must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and must have demonstrated better than average performance, along with team character recommendations.

Nominations are then forwarded to each conference and the leadership in each conference then forwards finalists to the STATE CCCAA Board Awards Committee. Only one team from each sport is selected and the 2018-19 Allan Hancock men's basketball, with an overall GPA of 3.4, was that team this season.

Congratulations players, coaches, support staff, counselors, and faculty who have instilled the importance of education into the minds of these fine young men.

The Bulldogs are still in the hunt for a State Championship. They host San Diego Miramar College in the first round of the playoff tonight 2/27/19 at Joe White Memorial Gymnasium. Tip-off is at 7pm.
