Hancock Baseball Hosts Canyons Thursday, Opens Conference Saturday at Ventura

Coming off a 1-3 week, the Allan Hancock College baseball team returns home to play College of the Canyons on Thursday, February 18 at 2 p.m. It will be the Bulldogs' final non-conference game before opening Western State Conference play at Ventura (6-3) on Saturday, February 21.

The Bulldogs opened last week with a 5-2 loss at home to Bakersfield. Right fielder Colby Barrick (Santa Ynez HS), catcher Tim Mahoney (St. Joseph HS), designated hitter Wyatt Coll (Righetti HS) and Hunter Christensen had two hits apiece. Mahoney and Coll each drove in one run.

Hancock traveled to College of the Canyons to play three games in three days starting with a 14-5 loss to host Canyons. Mahoney and Jacob Tonascia had two hits apiece. The Bulldogs followed that with a 5-4 loss to San Diego Mesa. James Fitzmaurice (St. Joseph HS) had two RBI and Colton Studebaker went three for three. Four Hancock errors led to four unearned runs for SD Mesa to help erase a 4-0 Hancock lead. The Bulldogs closed out the weekend with an 8-4 win over Rio Hondo. Ryan Peinado (St. Joseph HS) scored four runs, Studebaker drove in three runs, Mahoney added two hits and 2 RBI, and Tonascia went three for three with his first home run of the season. Sophomore left-handed pitcher Chance Miranda (Righetti HS) threw seven and two-thirds innings in his first start of the season to earn the victory.

Overall, Studebaker is hitting .379 with 12 RBI, which is tied for third most in the state. Peinado is hitting .348 with five stolen bases and 11 runs. Barrick is hitting .444 in four games with four stolen bases. Tonascia is also hitting .385 with 4 RBI.
