Former Hancock Baseball Star Colby Barrick Named to CCCAA Scholar Athlete Men's Honor Roll
Former Allan Hancock College baseball star Colby Barrick has been named to the 2015-16 Scholar Athlete Men's Honor Roll by the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA). Barrick is one of just nine male student-athletes selected out of thousands who participated in CCCAA-sanctioned sports during the 2015-16 academic year. Each Scholar-Athlete award winner is recognized for excelling athletically and academically with at least a 3.50 GPA.
Barrick produced nine doubles, five triples, five home runs and 24 RBI his sophomore season at Hancock. On top of a .388 batting average, Barrick compiled a .507 on-base percentage and .681 slugging percentage. He earned First Team All-Western State Conference and All-State honors. The Santa Ynez High School graduate hit .317 with 23 runs scored as a freshman for the Bulldogs. He finished his Hancock career the program's all-time leader with nine career triples.
After graduating from Hancock with a cumulative grade point average of 3.71 and an associate degree in business administration, Barrick transferred to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. He is expected to provide backup at center field for the Mustangs in 2017. He is a business administration major.
Ryan Welker, another Santa Ynez High School graduate who played baseball for the Bulldogs, was the last Hancock athlete named to the Honor Roll in 2013-14.
The CCCAA oversees intercollegiate athletics within the California Community College System. Each year, nearly 27,000 student-athletes participate in community college athletics in California.
