Baseball's Reed Odland Commits to University of Arkansas at Monticello
Allan Hancock College catcher Reed Odland has earned an opportunity to continue his baseball career at a four-year university. The Alberta native verbally committed to play for the University of Arkansas at Monticello, a Division II program that competes in the Great American Conference (GAC).
Odland was one of four Bulldogs named to the All-Western State Conference's Second Team this year. The sophomore posted a .268 batting average with eight doubles, 22 RBI, and scored 24 runs. He ranked third in the conference with five home runs. The left-handed hitter also drew 22 walks, which resulted in a .427 on-base percentage that ranked sixth in the conference. Behind the plate, he threw out 15 of the 51 runners attempting to steal or 23 percent.
The Boll Weevils have won back-to-back regular season conference titles under ninth-year head coach John Harvey. The Weevils enter this weekend's GAC Tournament with an overall record of 31-12 and the conference tournament's No. 1 seed. Harvey has led the Weevils to three appearances in the NCAA Regionals (2014, 2016-17) and two GAC Tournament championships. UAM has won 30 or more games the last four seasons.
