AHC Baseball Ranked Fifth in CCCSIA Top 15 Poll

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College baseball team claimed the No. 5 slot after collecting 111 points in the first edition of the CCCSIA State Baseball Top 15 Rankings. The rankings reflect less teams at 15 (normally 20) ranked and more Northern California teams occupying spots with 35 of the state's 52 programs that opted in to play a 2021 season. While some conferences will play for a conference title based on their own numbers of teams playing, there will be no regionals or state tournament this season.

The Bulldogs opened the season with a 2-3 start before catching fire and currently hold an active win streak of 11 games. The squad boasts an overall record of 13-3 on the season thus far, with a spotless 8-0 mark against Western State Conference foes.

Travis Welker currently leads Hancock at the plate with a .389 batting average on the season. He has totaled 23 runs, 21 hits, 13 RBIs, and four doubles through 54 at-bats. Welker has also collected five stolen bases on the season and has been walked 13 times this season. Matthew Gonzales leads the pitching squad with an ERA of 0.72 through 25 innings of work, while Vander Hodges and Trevor Garcia hold four wins apiece.

Orange Coast College the last team to be crowned a state champion in 2019, holds the top spot in the rankings after totaling 149 points. No. 2 Butte (15-3, 139 points), No. 3 Sequoias (14-4, 129 points), and No. 4 Ohlone (14-2, 124 points) rounded out the top four programs.
