Baseball's Evan Steinberger Inks with UCCS

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Allan Hancock College catcher, Evan Steinberger, has committed to continuing his academic and athletic career at the University of Colorado (Colorado Springs) next season.

"I chose UCCS because Coach Hajek and the assistant coaches made me feel like I was wanted at their program," Steinberger shared. "I also wanted the opportunity to expand my learning of the game and I'm getting a great to do that through a former major league player in Coach Hajek himself. I also feel like Colorado Springs just feels like the right place for me."

Steinberger completed his first countable, second overall, season with the Bulldogs in the spring. The Goleta native was an Honorable Mention All-Conference selection this season after catching in 36 games. Steinberger finished second amongst teammates in the box with a .358 batting average. He totaled 48 hits on the season while recording 23 runs and 31 RBIs. Behind the plate, the Dos Pueblos High School alum ranked in the Top 25 at the conclusion of the regular season for fewest stolen bases allowed and managed to catch seven runners attempting to steal.

"I feel like AHC prepared me perfectly for the next level. Because of my time here, I now know what it feels like to manage a full school schedule along with baseball. Mrs. Lainey was a big help in the process of setting up classes and everything. As for baseball, I feel that Coach Stevens, Frapart, Nickason, Eddie, and Walker really pushed me to expand my knowledge and understanding of the game," Steinberger added. "They not only taught us a lot about baseball in the two years that I was at Hancock, but they also taught us a lot about life as well as how to be a well-rounded human being in this world."
