Baseball Sweeps Oxnard in Three-Game Series
SANTA MARIA, Calif.- The Allan Hancock College baseball team pulled off a clean sweep in the three-game series against Oxnard College, which came to a close on Saturday afternoon at John Osborne Field. The Bulldogs now hold an overall record of 14-8 and are 8-3 against Western State Conference foes while Oxnard falls to 5-17 on the season (1-8 WSC).
Up next for Hancock is a home showing against Santa Barbara City College on Thursday, March 23rd, to start the next three-game series. Single-game tickets can be purchased here. As per usual, the ticketing gate will be cashless and fans are strongly encouraged to purchase their tickets prior to arrival, but credit/debit card purchases can be made at the gate.
GAME ONE: AHC 6, OXNARD 2 | BOX SCORE
Hancock opened the three-game series with a convincing victory at John Osborne Field, led by an impressive performance from Anthony Lopez that featured 13 strikeouts in his first start of the season.
Luke Wenzel broke open the scoring in the third frame with an RBI after a fielder's choice, followed by an RBI single through the right side by Niko Pecskovszky. The Bulldogs rattled off four runs in the bottom of the seventh after a single from Wenzel, a double by Tommy Kendlinger, and Brayan Nunez triple. The Condors scored one run in each of the final two innings to close the contest.
Lopez secured the win on the rubber and surrendered just one earned run through eight innings of action. Lucas Earle, who entered for relief in the ninth, struck out two batters and scattered two hits.
GAME TWO: AHC 6, OXNARD 5 | BOX SCORE
The Bulldogs struck early in the game two with a three-run showing in the first frame after an RBI double from Brayan Nunez and a single by Isaiah Hernandez that plated two. Elijah Pascual added to the effort in the next frame with a triple that scored one before finding his way home on a wild pitch. Oxnard bounced back by scoring one run in the second and one in the fifth while both sides were scoreless in the sixth. Bridger Coleman used a single to plate one runner in the top of the seventh before the Condors rattled off three runs to close out the scoring for the day.
Tommy Kendlinger led the visiting crew at the plate as the lone AHC member to register more than one hit on the day while picking up the only stolen base in the contest.
Cooper Bagby picked up the win on the bump after tossing 6.1 innings while Bradley Waite collected the save.
GAME THREE: AHC 5, OXNARD 1 | BOX SCORE
The final game of the series featured the Bulldogs being walked 12 times and hit by four pitches while forcing eight pitchers to appear on the bump for the visiting squad. Brayan Nunez and Niko Pecskovszy plated one runner apiece before an AHC runner scored on a fielding error in the third inning. Oxnard's lone run was scored in the top of the fifth before Jeremy Camarena and Gavin Long each earned an RBI after a pair of bases-loaded walks.
Long led Hancock after a perfect 4-for-4 showing at the plate, while Isaiah Hernandez led the home crew on the base path with three stolen bases.
Nick Brown earned the start and the win on the mount after striking out four batters and scattering four hits through five innings of work. Nate Wenzel and Christian Dijkman combined to close the game through the final four frames en route to non-decision performances.
