Baseball's Anthony Lopez Commits to Cal State LA

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Allan Hancock College pitcher, Anthony Lopez, will continue his academic and athletic career at the next level after announcing his commitment to Cal State LA.

"Playing baseball at a higher level in a place that is closer to home has always been a dream of mine, which is why I chose Cal State LA. I've also always wanted to play baseball in the Los Angeles area at the collegiate level. Everything just seemed to be the right fit and I couldn't let that go," Lopez stated.

Lopez recently completed his second countable season with the Bulldogs in May while also appearing during the shortened 2020 and 2021 seasons, which were not charged due to the pandemic. As a sophomore, the Lompoc native collected five wins and three saves while suffering just one loss through 15 appearances. He was selected as a Second Team All-Conference honoree after striking out 54 batters while working towards a 1.36 ERA through 46.1 innings pitched.

"My time at AHC prepared me for this step up to the next level because our program here is run like an upper division program. Our training and practices are highly focused and it made my time at Hancock that much better," Lopez added. "Also, the coaches that I had for my years here were nothing short of great. They push all of us and get on us because they see the potential we have, and I feel like they really saw the potential I had."

The Golden Eagles are a Division II member of the NCAA and compete in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
