Baseball Sweeps Bakersfield in Non-Conference Series

The Allan Hancock College baseball team swept the two-game series against Bakersfield College in a non-conference showdown last week. The Bulldogs now hold an overall record of 6-4 while the Renegades stand at 2-7 on the season.

Hancock is set to open the Western State Conference (North) slate this week with a three-game series against LA Pierce College. The series, which has been slightly altered, will see AHC travel twice before hosting on February 24th.

GAME ONE: AHC 6, BC 5 | BOX SCORE

The Bulldogs got on the board first after Bridger Coleman used a sacrifice fly to plate one. Hancock surged ahead with a five-run inning in the fourth, sparked by a pair of RBI singles from Isaiah Hernanzed and Tommy Kendlinger. Gavin Long followed with a double to right center that scored two before Stephen Espinoza closed things out with a sacrifice fly to center. The Renegades slowly cut the deficit with five unanswered runs through the next three frames but fell short of the comeback attempt after a strikeout and a double play.

Nick Brown (2-1) picked up the win after striking out five batters and allowing two earned runs through six innings. Cooper Bagby earned his first save of the season after tossing the final frame.

GAME TWO: AHC 6, BC 4 | BOX SCORE

Both teams scored in the second frame when Jesse Conrad drove in one before Bakersfield plated two with a single to left. Hancock took the lead in the next inning after a triple from Owen Bolich and a sacrifice fly by Blake Edgmon combined for two scores. Kendlinger added to the cushion in the fourth with another triple that plated one.

The Renegades cut the difference back to one with an RBI double in the seventh, but the visiting crew bounced right back with a pair of runs in the eighth after Edgmon drove in one and Richie Robles scored on an error. Bakersfield rounded out the scoring for both sides with a final run in the bottom of the inning before stranding two runners on base.

Estevan Fonseca secured his first win of the season after three innings of work before Bagby picked up a second save in the final 1.1 frames.
