Baseball Clinches Playoff Bid with Walk-Off Over Moorpark

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College baseball team has punched its ticket to the playoffs after a thrilling 3-2 walk-off win at home against Moorpark College on Tuesday afternoon. This will mark the second consecutive season that the program has earned a right to compete in postseason competition and is just the third since 2014. | BOX SCORE

The Bulldogs (22-14, 15-5) remain in the race for the Western State Conference (North) title with four games remaining in the regular season. Coach Stevens' crew is one game behind the current league leader, Santa Barbara City College, and is now one game ahead of Cuesta College.

Moorpark (13-22, 9-11) struck first with a sacrifice fly that plated one in the opener before Gavin Long tied the score in the third with a sacrifice fly of his own. Hancock took the lead briefly in the fifth after Long used a double down the right field line to plate one, but the Raiders responded once more after scoring on a wild pitch in the seventh.

The ninth inning was a nail-biter that started with a pair of strikeouts by Cooper Bagby and a ground out to third that ended the offensive hopes for Moorpark. Jeremey Camarena was the lead-off in the bottom of the inning and reached first via a walk. He advanced to second after a sacrifice bunt from Dean Samuel ahead of an intentional walk on Tommy Kendlinger. Camarena then moved to third after Long flew out to center before the Raiders intentionally walked Stephen Espinoza to load the bases with two outs. Ricky Smith registered the game-winning RBI after sending a shot to left field on a 1-1 count for the walk-off.

Bagby picked up the win on the mound after two innings of work in which he struck out three batters and allowed no hits. Nick Brown earned the start and retired eight Raiders while allowing just one earned run through seven frames.

The Bulldogs will continue league action with a road trip to Cuesta this afternoon (4/19) before returning home to host Oxnard College on Saturday, April 20th, at 1 PM.
