Baseball Sees Season Come to Close at SoCal Regionals
WALNUT, Calif. - The No. 18-seeded Allan Hancock College baseball team saw the season come to a close after a two-day showing against No. 7 Mt. San Antonio College in the SoCal Regional Playoffs over the weekend. The Bulldogs close the season with an overall record of 22-20 while the Mounties move on to the Super Regionals with a mark of 29-13 thus far.
Gavin Long led the team with a .429 batting average on the weekend after going 3-for-7 in the series. Tommy Kendlinger also notched three hits (.375), including one double, and recorded AHC's lone stolen base.
GAME ONE: MT. SAC 5, ALLAN HANCOCK 1 | BOX SCORE
Pitchers dueled in the early frames of the opening contests as both teams mustered just two hits apiece through the first six innings of play. The Mounties managed to get on the board in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI double and a passed ball opportunity. Hancock responded in the next inning after Bridger Coleman drove one run in with a double, but Mt. SAC extended the deficit quickly with a three-run effort to close out the frame after two RBI singles and a passed ball.
Nick Brown earned the start but was charged with the loss on the bump after 6.1 innings of work. He struck out two batters and allowed one earned run on three hits. Austin Moccardini entered to close but did not factor into the final decision after being charged with two earned runs and five hits through the final 1.2 frames.
GAME TWO: MT. SAC 12, ALLAN HANCOCK 2 | BOX SCORE
The Mounties used a pair of RBI singles in the third inning on Saturday to get on the board. They stretched the lead with another RBI single in the fifth before seeing three runners score in the sixth. The Bulldogs attempted to cut the deficit when Blake Edgmon and Julien Sepulveda drove in one run apiece, but the host crew quickly erased the effort with six unanswered runs to close out the contest.
Cooper Bagby suffered the loss after 6.2 innings on the rubber. He struck out five batters while allowing six earned runs on 12 hits. Jaiden Turner, Mason Robertson, Evan Chavez, and Austin Kerr also made brief non-decision appearances down the stretch.
