CERRITOS, Calif. - The No. 21-seeded Allan Hancock College baseball team fell twice in a best-of-three series at No. 4 Cerritos College in the opening round of the Southern California Regional Tournament over the weekend at Kincaid Field.
The Bulldogs were shut out in a 3-0 decision during the series opener on Friday afternoon. Despite putting together five hits, the Bulldogs were unable to convert scoring opportunities, leaving six runners on base and grounding into a double play. Braden Oliver led the Hancock offense with a 2-for-4 performance, while Josue Garcia, Isaac Imamura, and Owen Bolich each added a hit.
Starting pitcher Ryan Cronk turned in a solid outing, striking out three over five innings while giving up three runs (one earned) on eight hits and two walks. Hunter Beck delivered an impressive relief appearance, tossing three scoreless innings with a trio of strikeouts and allowing just one hit.
Defensively, Allan Hancock committed just one error and turned a double play on day one.
In game two, both sides remained scoreless through the first four innings of action before the hosting Falcons managed to break open the scoring with three runs in the fifth. Hancock's lone run came in the following frame on a two-out RBI single from Imamura. The Bulldogs saw their best scoring opportunity later in that same inning when Bolich sparked the rally with a double—his second of the game—before coming around to score.
Andrew Sandoval paced the offense with a 3-for-5 performance from the leadoff spot, while Bolich went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored.
On the mound, Jaiden Turner started for Hancock and went 7.2 innings, striking out 13 while giving up six earned runs on 10 hits. Austin Moccardini closed out the eighth before pitching a scoreless ninth inning in relief, striking out two and allowing as many hits.
The Bulldogs close out the season with an overall record of 22-20, an identical record to last year, after making their third consecutive postseason appearance. This also marks the fourth straight 20+ win season for the program.
