BIG THIRD QUARTER DECIDES FOOTBALL VICTORY OVER VENTURA
VENTURA-- The Allan Hancock College football team scored three third-quarter touchdowns to pull away from Ventura in a 45-10 Western State Conference North match-up at Larrabee Stadium.
Hancock (3-1, 2-0 WSC No.) led 10-3 at halftime, but scored on their first three possessions after the break, and led 31-3 as the fourth quarter began. Michael DeRose (Fr., Arroyo Grande HS) scored from one yard out to culminate a second half opening drive of seven plays for 73 yards. After Ventura went three and out, TE Kyle Pollock (Fr., Arroyo Grande) scored on a 23-yard TD pass from QB Jonathon Dally (So., Righetti HS). The third score came when Andre Cirino (Fr., Staten Island, NY) bulled his way in from four yards out.
Cirino scored again early in the fourth quarter on a 53 yard run and Antwain Wallace (Fr., Palm Beach, FL) ran in from five yards for his first touchdown of the year, to complete the scoring.
Hancock opened the scoring in the first quarter when Dally hit wide-receiver Tyrell Munnerlyn on a 30 yard TD pass. After Ventura scored a field-goal late in the second, kicker Sal Gutierrez hit a 30 yarder of his own with :33 left on the clock. Gutierrez (Fr., Arroyo Grande) was also perfect on six extra-point attempts.
Dally was 6-for-10 passing for 142 yards and two touchdowns. Cirino was the leading rusher, going for 115 yards on eight attempts. Corey Stollmeyer (So., Morro Bay HS) ran eight times for 62 yards. Munnerlyn, Dominic Catayas (So., St. Joseph HS) and Joseph Dally (So., Righetti) each had two receptions.
Linebacker Sam Guilliume (Fr., Malden, MA) led the Bulldog defense with eight tackles, followed by Ryan Head (Fr., San Luis Obispo HS) and Steve Tobey (Fr., Paso Robles) with five each. Neil Tidwell (Fr., Atascadero HS) and Chad Simpson (Fr., Righetti) each had an interception.
AHC will next travel to Woodland Hills to take on the L.A. Pierce Brahmas on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 7:00 p.m. Last year, Hancock set a school record by rushing for 522 yards against Pierce. AM 1440 in Santa Maria and AM 1410 in Lompoc will similcast the game, with pre-game at 6:30.
