ANOTHER BIG THIRD QUARTER LEADS TO FOOTBALL VICTORY
WOODLAND HILLS-- For the second straight week the Allan Hancock College football team used a huge third quarter to pull away, and defeated L.A. Pierce, 35-6, in a Western State Confernce North game.
Hancock (4-1, 3-0 WSC No.) scored on the opening drive of the second half after leading, 14-0 at the break, and converted two Pierce turnovers for scores in the third, to put the game out of reach. Tyler DeRose (Fr., Arroyo Grande HS) caught a 13-yard TD pass from QB Jonathan Dally (So., Righetti HS) to cap a 10-play, 80-yard drive that ate up almost five minutes. Dally scored on a run from five yards out to finish off a short 28 yard drive after a Neil Tidwell interception. Tidwell (Fr., Atascadero HS) had two interceptions on the night. Just over one minute later, defensive lineman Jelani Murray (Fr., Ft. Myers, FL) picked up a Brahmas fumble and rumbled in from 13 yards out for the score.
The Bulldogs rushed for 344 yards in the game, led by Corey Stollmeyer (So., Morro Bay HS) with 106 yards on 10 carries. Stollmeyer scored on a 39-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter. Andre Cirino (Fr., Staten Island, NY) added 65 on 11 carries and Shaun Stewart (So., Queens, NY) ran for 60 yards on nine attempts. Fullback Andrew Hirsch (So., Arroyo Grande) ran the ball seven times, good for 58 yards. He also scored the first touchdown of the game, a 14-yard pass reception from Dally.
Dally was four-of-five passing for 52 yards and two touchdowns. So far this season, Dally has completed 25 passes in 44 attempts, and has thrown eight touchdowns. Playing in the fourth quarter, running back Lorenzo Goode (Fr., Richmond, VA) ran the ball eight times for 45 yards.
The AHC defense had an excellent game, allowing just 63 yards on the ground and 134 in the air. William Roundtree (Fr., Ocala, FL) led the team with nine tackles, three for losses and a sack. Ryan Head (Fr., San Luis Obispo HS) added six tackles and Sam Guilliume (Fr., Malden, MA) had five. AHC routed the Brahmas despite having 17 penalties for 145 yards.
The entire Western State Conference takes a week off before resuming on Saturday, Oct. 14. The Bulldogs will open the second half of the season, hosting Santa Monica at Righetti High School. The 7:00 game will be the fourth annual Military Appreciation Night.
