Hancock Football Finishes Season with a Trip to the Playoffs

The Allan Hancock College Bulldogs are officially headed to the Southern California Football Association state playoffs for the second year in a row following an intense 28-21 win against Ventura College Nov. 7. This year the team is entering the playoffs with a blistering 9-1 record, their best season record since 1999 when the team also finished 9-1 and ended up with a spot in the state championship game.

“Everyone involved with the program this season has worked extremely hard to get where we are and we’re really glad we were able to finish the season the way we did,” said Hancock head coach Kris Dutra.

Currently ranked sixth in the Southern Section and ninth in the state, the Bulldogs qualified for the postseason behind National Northern Conference champions Bakersfield College. Ranked fifth in Southern California, Bakersfield is the only team to get a win off of the Bulldogs this season in a close 24-31 game that ended with the Bulldogs just one yard from the Bakersfield end zone with seconds left in the game.

There’s a chance that Hancock could get a rematch with Bakersfield in their first round playoff game. That announcement is scheduled to take place on Sunday, Nov. 15.

“We’re all really excited to find out who we’re going to go up against,” Dutra said.

Finished with their regular season, the Bulldogs have a bye on Nov. 14. Their first round playoff game will take place on Saturday, Nov. 21 with the location and opponent still to be determined.
