Don't Miss the Tri-Tip Grill-Off at the Football Season Opener
The first game of the Allan Hancock College Bulldog football season will be worth the drive for fans with not one, but two contests taking place. First, the Gridiron Grill-Off tri-tip cooking contest between the Allan Hancock College grill team and Santa Barbara City College will give fans a chance to taste and vote for their favorite tri-tip.
Following dinner is the main event, the exciting football game between coast rivals Hancock and Santa Barbara City College. The tri-tip will be served between 4 and 5:30 p.m. at La Playa Stadium in Santa Barbara followed by the kickoff at 6 p.m.
This will be the 50th time that the Bulldogs and Vaqueros have gone head-to-head since the two teams first met on the field in 1956. Since then the Bulldogs have won 27 games, the Vaqueros 21, with one tie. Last season Hancock beat Santa Barbara 42-6 on the Bulldog’s home field. The score was much tighter when the Bulldogs beat the Vaqueros 14-10 in Santa Barbara in 2008.
The Bulldogs start the 2010 season with a ranking of 13th in the California Community College Football Coaches Association poll. Hancock finished last season with a 9-2 record and a berth in the Golden Empire Bowl state playoff game. Santa Barbara City College finished their 2010 season with a 3-7 record.
Tickets for the Grid Iron Grill-Off can be reserved by calling 730-4076 and are \$10 in advance, \$12 at the door.
The season opener and all football games this season will be broadcast with live audio on the Allan Hancock College athletics website at athletics.hancockcollege.edu. For more information visit the website or call 922-6966 ext. 3227.
