Hancock Football Moves from 18th Ranking to 10th With 35-28 Win Over Fullerton

The Allan Hancock College football team returned from Fullerton with a winning record after beating the Hornets 35-28. The Bulldogs are now 3-2 and have moved up to tenth in the California Community College Football Coaches Association Poll and third in the Northen Conference trailing only Bakersfield and Cerritos.
The Bulldogs started the scoring on Saturday, Oct. 2 against Fullerton after sophomore John Sua (Santa Maria)  forced a fumble from Fullerton running back Kelvin York and freshman Cody Berry recovered the ball at the 33-yard line.  From there quarterback Gavin Kelly (Santa Maria)  threw a 20-yard pass to Scott Cathcart (Santa Maria)  for a first down. Ryan Anglin (Santa Maria)  ran 14 yards for the teams’ first touchdown. The Hornets answered with two touchdowns of their own, bringing the score to 14-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Quarterback Seth Tripod (Paragould)  took over from Kelly at the end of the second quarter and led a drive that ended with a 17-yard touchdown run by freshman Chris Barnwell (Savannah).  Fullerton scored once more in the second and the Bulldogs fought their way to the one-yard line at the end of the half to bring the score to 21-21 after a four-yard touchdown pass to freshman Spencer Dudley (St. Charles).
After one more Fullerton touchdown in the third quarter, the Bulldogs took the ball to the one yard line to end the quarter and then took over in the fourth. Barnwell ran the one yard for a Bulldog touchdown and later in the quarter Tripod threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Sean DuBois (San Luis Obispo).
Hancock defense shut down the Hornets with eight minutes left in the game with the help of a sack by Spiro Cominos (Flushing) and another forced fumble from Sua.
The Bulldogs have a bye Oct. 9 and play at home against the Bakersfield Renegades at 6 p.m. on Oct. 13 at the Righetti High School stadium in Santa Maria.
