Hancock Football Beats SBCC 33-14
The Bulldogs opened their 2011 season with a decisive win against Central Coast rivals Santa Barbara City College. Freshman Cameron Artis-Payne (Harrisburg) was the first to rush into the end zone on a five yard hand off from starting quaterback T.J. Jordan (Righetti). Artis-Payne went on to score twice more for the Bulldogs, inlcuding a 57-yard run near the end of the first quarter. Artis-Payne ended the night with a total of 160 yards.
Freshman Shane Henderson (Columbus East) led the team in receiving yards, after catching an 80-yard touchdown pass from Jordan at the start of the second quarter. Marcell Blow (Lompoc) finished up the scoring for the Bulldogs with a 37-yard touchdown run. In total Hancock had 293 net rushing yards to Santa Barbara's 38.
Much of the team's success was due to the Bulldog defense led by returners Cody Berry (Righetti), Christopher Wheeler (Templeton), Tanner Kuhnle (Atascadero), Kepa Nakaahiki (Kauai) and Carlos Faumuina (Righetti) and freshman Seteone Vaitafa (Mesa).
