Hancock Football Releases Challenging 2014 Schedule
Highlighted by four games against teams that played in the 2013 postseason, Allan Hancock College Athletic Director Kim Ensing released the football schedule for the 2014 season. The schedule includes five home contests that will take place at Righetti High School, as well as two games against programs the Bulldogs have never played.
"This is a difficult schedule because we play in the most competitive conference in the State Community College system. We welcome the challenge of taking on some of the best programs around and showing them what Bulldog football is all about," said head coach Kris Dutra, who owns a career record of 80-57 since taking over the program in 2001.
Hancock opens the season on the road Saturday, Sept.6, at Santa Ana. It will mark Hancock's first-ever meeting with Santa Ana, which went 3-7 last season. The following Saturday, Sept.13, the Bulldogs host rival Santa Barbara at Righetti High School. The Vaqueros edged the Bulldogs 15-14 in 2013. Hancock and Santa Barbara's rivalry dates back to 1956 with the Bulldogs owning a 28-22-1 advantage in the series.
The Bulldogs hit the road for a game on Sept.20, at Chaffey College. The Panthers went 9-2 last season and won the American Division before falling to LA Pierce in the postseason. This will be the first meeting between the two programs.
Hancock opens a two-game home stand and conference play on Sept. 27, against Bakersfield. The Renegades edged the Bulldogs 17-15 in 2013 on their way to a 5-5 season. Bakersfield leads the all-time series with Hancock 17-6. After their bye week, the Bulldogs return to action at home against Long Beach on Oct.11. It will mark the third all-time meeting between the programs and the first since 2005, when Hancock lost 49-37 to Long Beach in the American Bowl. Long Beach went 4-6 in 2013.
On Oct.18, Hancock plays at Cerritos in a conference game. Hancock lost 30-27 to Cerritos in 2013 and trails the all-time series 1-6. Cerritos went 7-4 last season and defeated Grossmont 64-33 in the Western State Bowl.
The Bulldogs travel to College of the Canyons on Oct.25. Hancock upset the Northern Conference champions 34-29 last season. Canyons finished the season 8-3 and fell to Fullerton 56-17 in the National Bowl.
The Bulldogs welcome Pasadena City College to Righetti High School on Nov.1. Pasadena knocked off Hancock last season 19-17. Pasadena went 1-9 in 2013.
Hancock hits the road for a game at Ventura on Nov.11. Ventura went 6-5 last season and lost to Mt. SAC 42-14 in the Golden State Bowl. Hancock fell 28-20 at Ventura in 2013. The all-time series between the Bulldogs and Pirates is tied 16-16.
Hancock finishes the regular season at home on Nov.15, against Moorpark College. Last season, the Bulldogs beat Moorpark 34-21. The game at Righetti High School will be their 31st meeting, with each team having won 15 games.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 3-7 season that included a 2-4 mark in conference action.
The start times for all games will be announced at a later date.
